A few quilts

I recently made quilts for the 3 girls of a friend. Their room is newly decorated in pink and green, so I made three pink quilts for them to use in their new room.

Caisi's Quilt
Caisi's quilt is a whole cloth quilt. I used Minky-like fabric for the back, because she likes the "bumps." I free motion quilted the entire quilt in a viney flower pattern.

Candace's Quilt
Candace's Quilt is made from a pink charm pack I bought on eBay. I purchased four different whites at Hancock fabrics and cut them myself. I used a tiny heart print for the back and freemotion quilted a "Hostess cupcake" pattern across the pink rows. When I washed it, the cotton batting shrunk up and gave it a really cool puckered look.

Cierra's Quilt
I forgot to take a picture of Cierra's quilt before I took it to her. For her quilt, since she is the oldest, I wanted something more grown up. I used a kind of retro looking spiral flower print that had a magenta background, brown spirals for the flowers with acid green centers. I placed a brown and green stripe across the lower third of the quilt. The back was the same flower print and the binding, more of the green. I freemotion quilted a flower in the top portion above the stripes and horizontal lines in between the stripes. The stripes were left unquilted.

Bathroom Remodel

We just on Tuesday finished remodeling the master bathroom. To be perfectly honest, Zenon, finished the remodel. I mostly sat on the couch and watched three men tromp through the house. There was much sawing, pounding, drilling, tiling, and, I think, cursing in Polish. They did a great job. They were very respectful, knew their stuff, kept me informed (most of the time), showed up when they said they would (or close to it) and kept the place as clean as possible. You can't really expect more than that.

There aren't any ugly before pics, but the tiny fiberglass shower stall was flanked by a cabinet raised off the floor to allow the radiator to pass through to the closet. We discovered that the floor had been raised to accommodate the radiator plumbing, and both the raised floor and the radiator were removed. And the sink, toilet, lights, shower stall, and cabinets. One plaster wall had to be removed, the actual floor opened up, plumbing redone, new studs on the wall that was removed.

Here's what our patio looked like for almost two weeks.

Durock all around.

Then the shower floor and curb built and floor leveled.

Tile installed.

And finally, fixtures.

Welcome to my blog

I've started reading a few blogs lately, and thought it would be a good way to keep track of and share some of the projects I have been working on lately.

  • We just finished renovating a bathroom.
  • I've started knitting a sweater.
  • I have a whole container of scrapbooking materials waiting to be cut and pasted, and a partner in crime to scrapbook with, dependent on the hockey schedule of course.
  • My pile of recipes to try out is getting larger, although I'm trying to resist baking too much.
  • I have more cheap quilting fabric to sew up for Project Linus, and a stack of quilts to send to them. There may also be a quilting bee in the near future.
  • The weather is getting warmer and that means some putzing around in the patch of dirt out back. And that means it's almost BLT season.
So you'll find a little of this and a little of that. No promises on any regular frequency of updates, but we'll see where it goes.
